Blaugust 2016: Time to try a new experiment

It’s the god-why-is-it-so-bloody-hot time of year again which means that it’s time for Blaugust 2016! It almost didn’t happen because it was a lot of work for Belghast last year (I can only imagine all that was involved). But now it’s back in a more relaxed form and I’m glad it didn’t go away.

I’d actually been thinking about Blaugust for a few weeks, mostly wonder just how I was going to be able to participate. I kind of overdid it last year and I’m certain it was a contributing factor to the carpal tunnel I got soon after last August. I feel like I talk about CTS a lot on here but it’s something that really affected my daily life and since it’s still affecting me almost a year later, I really do not want to repeat it all over again. But at the same time, I wanted to be part of Blaugust again.

Before the “super relaxed edition” was announced this year, I managed to come up with an idea. The minimum for last year was to write at least 10 sentences a day, right? I almost always go way over that when I’m writing about different topics every day (hence the overexertion), but what if it was the same topic? What if I wrote a story, 10 sentences at a time?

I know now that I could go with a much less intense schedule like others are doing. But after I got this idea in my head, it stuck. Besides, it’s been a long while since I’ve written any stories.

So The Storylet Experiment will begin tomorrow. It’ll be 10 sentences a day (give or take) and I’m going to write it on the fly with very little editing (so basically every other post I write). I won’t be flying blind though, I already have a few story ideas that have been floating around my head for quite a while. I just need to decide which one to use, with a little help from you my dear readers and the blogosphere. I posted a poll on Twitter so you can cast your vote, or you can put your choice in a comment on this post if you don’t use Twitter.

I’ll likely still have a post here and there about gaming, but most of this month ‘s posts will be dedicated to this experiment.

I honestly don’t know how this will turn out. It could be a fantastically fun exercise, it could be a total flop. It could be way too much for me between finalizing the sale of my house, hunting for another one, packing, moving, working…but I can’t not try. After all, it’s only 10 sentences a day.
